We ensure our children grow up to understand the Christian core values of respect, thankfulness, perseverance, honesty, forgiveness and love. Our Christian foundation underpins all that we do which has led us to being judged as an outstanding church school. Our school has many strengths. We pride ourselves in our inclusive culture, our celebration of individual talents, skills and achievements, our good standards of behaviour and firm commitment to providing the highest quality of education for our children. Our school has strong links with our local church. Church services are held regularly at school and Messy Church is very popular with our children and their families. Our children also visit the church to celebrate Easter and Christmas.
Collective Worship at Pinhoe School is an integral part of daily life.
Our core values of respect, thankfulness, perseverance, honesty, forgiveness and love form part of who we are at Pinhoe.
These values are referred to as part of everything we do - including learning about life, the world around us and sorting out problems with our friends. The whole school comes together in reflection on Monday mornings and key stage assemblies allow a smaller, family approach to collective worship throughout the week. The children love to sing and we get together to learn new hymns and songs weekly.
On Friday we all come together again to celebrate our achievements and give thanks for a great week of learning.
In addition to whole school collective worships we take part in weekly class worships. These are taken from the Roots and Fruits Creative Collective Worship for Primary Schools.
Each assembly includes the four elements of Welcome, Learning, Reflecting and Responding – which match the Windows, Mirrors, Doors strategy that forms part of our understanding of world views. A windows, mirrors and Doors approach gives opportunities for children to reflect, to look inward to consider some of the big questions of life: To explore their own insights and those of others.
Our collective worship is enriched by the use of:
- Quotes and questions to encourage deeper thinking about each value
- Photographs and posters to root the teaching in the everyday experience of children
- Stories, poems and art, much of which has been especially commissioned for this book
- Prayers and guided reflections from traditional and contemporary authors
- Fruits from the Roots – ideas to develop the theme of the worship through the week
We are proud to make links within our class provision so we include activities from our collective worships within our Prayer spaces.
